Science in Motion

After weeks of uploading here is Science in Motion in HD almost entirely. The only thing censored is McKay jumping through the sprinkler naked so that these vids don't get taken down.

Enjoy.

Montreal & Some Tests

Over the past year, I made a project through OCAD digging up my grandfather's old 8mm films from the 40's through the 80's. Some of those reels included footage from Expo '67 in Montreal. Spending quite a bit of time there myself with my sweet sister and girlfriend, I decided to go on a mission over the course of a weekend the last time I was there. I searched out what I could find at the Port of Montreal and the Islands that appeared in those reels and shot timelapse of the locations. The end result seems a bit stark in comparison to the balmy beautiful 1960's summer paradise. Probably due to the just recently breaking winter and the seemingly endless bitter-cold rain, leaving me without much choice but to make an evil depiction of modern Montreal. To be clear though, I absolutely love the city of Montreal and all that it has to offer. This video is not representative of my personal views, just a product of that material I had to work with.

I've also been gearing up the past few weeks to shoot a number of projects and short films. These are some miscellaneous shots I've also acquired in those weeks. Included are a timelapse of what is publicly accessible by car on the Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit in Montreal. Possibly one of the coolest random finds on my adventures to the Islands. Also, I tested a number of techniques to create a steadycam and have a polished test here.

Beyond Wonderland Equestrian

So three weeks ago I started a new business venture called Beyond Wonderland Equestrian. For the remainder of the 2010 horse show season we will be set up on location at Caledon Equestrian Park to film rounds at all of the A-Shows, and possibly more shows if time and success permits. We have scheduled rings I will be on location at available for reference on our new site located here. If you are in the horse community, drop by our tent or come visit me ringside and say what's up.

Here's our demo reel, and a sample video of Sarah Johnstone showing two fabulous horses at the $10,000 Devoucoux Modified Grand Prix during May's Caledon National Competition in which she walked away winning and in 4th place.

End of May, beginning of June I'm going to be working on a number of music videos, so here are a few I've been enjoying lately...

Framez

Last year I made this piece called "Welcome to My World" for my frame by frame animation class. I did all of the animation and then just let it sit on my hard drive for a year.

I recently learned a little bit about making music for films so I finished the soundtrack over the last couple of days. This is my first stab at writing a score so don't be too harsh on me.

I also shot this during the filming for Linwood Barclay's featurettes, just a short reading from his newest book.

And I know this is alot of viewing and most of you will be like fuck this after 3 or 4, but all of these are truly inspiring to me and I hope you enjoy them.

Lewis Cruise

Last night I finished this video for Lewis Cruise. I filmed the skating over two days downtown in the summer, then we kinda got slack on filming the intro, so I finished it for a lighting project this week. ;-)

It's been quite a bit of time since my last post and for good reason. For the past three months I've been working with my good friend Spencer Barclay on two featurettes for his father's novels. Aside from that, my computer went kaput, and everyone who's ever lost anything from a computer garb knows how much damage control one has to do to secure their long hours of work.

So on to some new content for your painful months in wait...

I recently compiled my work of 2009, and my new portfolio is available here with demo reels on the CV page at 720p or 360p.
